A word from Sara H:
In December of 2007 I had just had my third baby. I was eager to get back to the gym to get off the extra weight that I had gained. I went back to Golds gym and was easily discouraged because I was not seeing the changes that I had hoped for. Feeling depressed and needing a kick start I enrolled in a 6 week boot camp where I thought for sure that I would see the desired results I was looking for. Three 6 week sessions later, I was still wearing the same size pants and the scale had not moved at all. At this time my husband who was an avid Crossfitter asked me to finally just try it. I was reluctant and scared that I would not be able to do it….push up’s, pull ups, body weight bench press, etc…Don’t get me wrong, I was going to the gym but for some reason the Crossfit site was very intimidating for me.
I decided that I would attend one of the free Saturday sessions to try it out. After this one session I was hooked. I remember very vividly that we did inverted burpees!! I thought there was no way that I was going to be able to do a handstand. I did it and loved every minute of it. The others that were there helped and we did it as a team. Everyone there was cheering each other on and genuinely interested in everyone’s success. I have been attending classes ever since this Saturday. Six months later I was able to do kipping pull-ups. Something I never thought I would be able to do. I love the personal training experience and the friendships that I have created at Crossfit. Even after a year I am still surprising myself with new accomplishments and getting stronger every day. Crossfit never gives you the mundane feeling of working out.
August 1, 2009, I became a “true” Crossfit junkie. My hands tore from doing 50 pull ups during the grand opening of the new Wasatch Crossfit location. Even though they hurt I felt the biggest sense of accomplishment. I love Crossfit and everything about it. I am usually sore and love it and I continue to improve and get stronger. Crossfit has increased my running as well. I was running a 10 minute mile and now I am usually running between a 7.5 to 8.5 minute mile.
I recently participated in the Sectionals. I have never in my 36 years of life done anything related to a competition. Even though I was not a top competitor I competed and saw some of my own PR’s. It was a great accomplishment and something that I would recommend to anyone!
For those of you who have not tried Crossfit, don’t wait any longer, go for it! You won’t regret it!
